Sleep Study Center in Hammond, LA
Sleep and sleep-related problems play a role in many human disorders and affect almost every field of medicine. Cypress Pointe Surgical Hospital is excited to partner with SSM Sleep Labs to identify and treat sleep disorders in our community.
During a sleep study, we measure several variables such as brain waves, oxygen levels, heartbeat, breathing effort, air flow and leg movement. These variables help us to work with your physician and determine the best treatment plan.
Ask your doctor today for a referral to SSM Cypress Pointe Sleep Lab if you feel you suffer from any of the following:
- Difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep
- Loud snoring
- Snorting or gasping
- Unexplained morning headaches
- Frequent daytime sleepiness or fatigue
- Not feeling rested when you wake up
- Limited attention or inability to concentrate
- Impaired memory or memory loss
What is a sleep study?
We perform sleep studies to determine what is disturbing your sleep. A sleep study is painless. Patients simply spend the night in a comfortable, private, sleep study room. Our rooms are decorated to make you feel like you’re sleeping in your bedroom, not a facility. During a sleep study, several variables are measured: brain waves, oxygen levels, heartbeat, breathing effort, air flow and leg movement. What does treatment look like?
Treatment options will vary with the type of sleep disorder that is diagnosed. Each treatment plan is specifically designed just for the patient. Common treatment modalities can include:
- Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Device therapy
- Oral appliance therapy
- Soft palate surgical treatment
- Pharmaceutical intervention
- Sleep hygiene behavioral modifications
How much sleep do we need?
There are many factors that go into the amount of sleep needed, including age. On average, teenagers need about 9 hours of sleep, while adults need 7-8 hours. When you do not get enough sleep time, your body creates a “sleep-debt” and will demand that debt to be repaid eventually. Over time, your body may get used to this deprivation, but your judgment, reaction time and other functions will remain impaired.
Why is sleep so important?
Sleep and sleep-related problems play a role in many human disorders and affect almost every field of medicine. At least 40 million Americans each year suffer from chronic, long-term sleep disorders, and an additional 20 million experience occasional sleeping problems. These disorders and the resulting sleep deprivation interfere with work, driving, and social activities. Contact us today if you have any more questions we can answer.
